  • Overview

    Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Metallurgist will effectively provide metallurgical and technical support to all aspects of manufacturing.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide daily metallurgical and technical support to all company departments actively involved in manufacturing, including corrective and preventive action
    • Perform metallographic analysis using digital or optical microscopy.
    • Conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on customer complaints/claims and internal quality issues including corrective and preventive action
    • Prepare detailed technical reports on completed failure analysis investigations.
    • Responsible for identifying and executing projects for process improvements.
    • Actively contributes and implements continuous process improvements.
    • Perform regular process audits to assure adherence to standard procedure and analyze process optimization.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science required
    • At least 5 years related experience with casting and hot extrusion preferred.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge of metallographic sample preparation, etching and the use of digital and light optical microscopes
    • Attention to detail
    • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety practices
    • Strong communication skills
    • Strong mathematical skills

    SPECIFIC EQUIPMENT USED:

    • Microscopes & Metallography Equipment
    • Optical, XRF and ICP spectrometers plus hardness and tensile testing equipment
    • Digital photography – macro and micro
    • Computer and computer programs
    • Appropriate Safety PPE
