Wieland is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join the team! The Mechanical Engineer will be to be responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of a broad range of mechanical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems in a complex manufacturing operation. Mechanical Engineer will manage capital and major maintenance projects and should be familiar with a variety of the mechanical engineering and maintenance concepts, practices, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of rolling experience within the steel, copper, or aluminum industry .

 

This role is located in East Alton, IL in our brass mill and casting plant and will be performed 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer include but not limited to:

  • Work with operations, Process Engineering, Quality Engineering, and Maintenance to understand equipment and system performance, identify gaps to standard, develop solutions in a team environment, and implement with internal and external resources.
  • Prepare projects in a consistent manner to ensure project definition and team buy-in is gained. Use the conceptual design or solution to estimate the project cost by line item.  Generate appropriate approval documents (CAR, Work order, savings documentation, etc.)
  • Implement projects from concept to completion. Keep the project on schedule, control expenditures to avoid cost overruns, meet agreed to deliverables.
  • Keep abreast of engineering and manufacturing technological developments for the purpose of improving safety, quality, inventory reduction, on time performance, and cost reductions.
  • Assists in the troubleshooting process to assure root cause identification and resolution to maintain productivity, product quality, and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Supports and encourages employee involvement in continuous improvement activities including Safety Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, TPM and Maintenance Excellence activities.
  • Provide technical advice to the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for assigned areas of responsibilities.
  • Required to lead by example and advisement. Responsible for directing the work of internal craftsmen and supervising outside contractors.

Qualifications of Mechanical Engineer include but not limited to:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3-7 years experience in a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of rolling experience within the steel, copper, or aluminum industry 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hydraulic and fluid systems troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiar with maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
