Wieland currently has an immediate need for a Slitter Operator to set-up and operate slitter machines and continually monitor materials and machine parameters to assure compliance with safety and customer specifications. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined - metals industry is a plus! This position will be located at our Wieland Thin Strip facility in Waterbury, CT

 

Starting Pay: $25/hr.

Schedule: 2nd Shift or 3rd Shift

Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly

Responsibilities

Slitter Operator Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and operate slitter machines
  • Operate rewind equipment, core cutter, saws, etc.
  • Use electronic contact and non-contact gauges, indicators, and controls to operate machine and check product
  • Move material to and from machine using forklifts, transporters, cranes, pallet jacks
  • Direct the work of one or more operators to maximize machine uptime, quality, and productivity
  • Detect and report faulty operations, improper material and unusual conditions
  • Perform light maintenance on machines, such as changing and cleaning work rolls, intermediate rolls, and bearings
  • Comply with all safety rules and regulations
  • Follow PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and JSP (Job Safety Practice) documents
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Check material for proper gauge, surface finish, or other properties and communicate with metrology lab to ensure product meets appropriate specifications
  • Perform other similar or related duties or flex to other areas of the plant as required

Slitter Operator Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience running coil slitters, inline-weld multi-head traverse winding or other related machinery
  • Mechanically inclined, comfort level with using small hand tools
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Ability to maintain production records and logs
  • Ability to perform simple math, addition and subtraction
  • Familiarity with use of micrometers and calipers
  • Excellent decision making skills and organizational ability
