Wieland is hiring a Tax Manager. The Tax Manager will support the WNA Tax Director in managing US GAAP tax provisions, federal and state tax compliance, and indirect tax responsibilities. This role requires a hands-on approach to tax provisions, estimated tax payments, and income tax preparation. The Tax Manager will collaborate with external tax consultants, lead the implementation of in-house tax compliance software, conduct tax research, and participate in planning initiatives across North America.

 

Open to this role being fully remote with occasional travel to the HQ office in Louisville, KY.

Responsibilities

Tax Manager Responsibilities:

  • Tax Provision & Reporting
    • Maintain an effective and efficient tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740.
    • Oversee current and deferred tax expense calculations and maintain deferred tax assets and liabilities.
    • Reconcile income taxes payable and prepare the WNA effective tax rate report.
    • Maintain and Prepare tax basis balance sheets.
  • Tax Compliance & Filings
    • Develop and maintain relationships with operational and financial leaders to improve tax data collection and processing.
    • Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns and annual reports in collaboration with external tax consultants.
    • Maintain an overall tax filing calendar and ensure timely, accurate filings.
  •  Estimated Tax Payments
    • Support the preparation and payment of quarterly estimated tax calculations.
    • Perform taxable income forecasts to determine appropriate estimated tax payments.
  • Tax Credits & Incentives
    • Collaborate with tax team members and partners to support Qualified Research Expenses (QRE) and Research & Development (R&D) tax credit calculations.
    • Assist in the in-house tax calculation of LIFO.
  • Tax Software Implementation
    • Lead the selection and implementation of tax compliance software to assist in bringing tax filings in-house and streamline the preparation and filing of federal and state income tax returns.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Integration
    • Assist in integrating newly acquired entities into existing tax compliance processes.
    • Ensure all acquisition-related tax filings and disclosures are completed accurately and timely.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • This position includes one direct report supporting the activities noted above, primarily related to indirect taxes.

 

Tax Manager Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Accounting, preferably with a concentration in tax
  • Minimum 10 years overall experience, including experience in Public and Corporate tax, potentially with international tax exposure, including a CPA license.  Big 4 or regional public accounting experience at the Senior Tax Associate or Manager level, and specifically in the tax reporting and compliance practice.
  • Strong hands-on experience working tax provisions, compliance and research.  Ability to work within the GL and tax systems of a company to extract data required for tax compliance and tax accounting purposes.
  • Hands on, self-motivated, individual with the ability and desire to create new or improve existing processes, procedures and documentation.
  • Desire to work in a dynamic and growing environment
