Wieland is hiring a Government Relations Manager. The Government Relations & Industry Liaison is a highly strategic role responsible for shaping Wieland’s presence in the defense and government sectors. The individual will act as an ambassador, advocate, and growth driver—connecting industry, government, and commercial interests to position Wieland for expanded influence and sustained growth. This role blends public affairs, regulatory navigation, business development, and supply chain insight to support strategic initiatives in advanced metals and manufacturing.

 This role is located in Monson, MA and will be eligible for remote/hybrid work. 

 

Base Salary Range: $160,000 annually.

May be eligible for a variable compensation plan bonus based upon company performance within fiscal year cycle.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

 

Government & Industry Relations

  • Represent Wieland at key defense, naval, and industry forums and events.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with federal agencies, shipyards, and industry stakeholders.
  • Support efforts to gain product approvals and new program qualifications.
  • May register as a federal lobbyist to advocate for policies and initiatives aligned with Wieland’s goals.

Business Development & Growth Strategy

  • Promote advanced alloys and new product offerings to government agencies.
  • Identify and nurture new growth opportunities across defense-related segments.
  • Assist in the identification and evaluation of potential acquisition targets supporting strategic expansion.

Regulatory & Compliance Navigation

  • Guide compliance with GSA contracts, DFARS clauses, and duty-free import rules.
  • Provide insight into programs involving export licensing, security clearances, and strategic exemptions.
  • Help access and leverage state/federal programs aligned with growth and compliance objectives.

Defense & Naval Market Expansion

  • Uncover new business within underpenetrated shipyard and naval programs.
  • Accelerate approval pathways and facilitate transitions from aerospace to defense machining.
  • Open strategic conversations with new players (e.g., Austal, W-International) and inform internal teams of buyer motivations and procurement dynamics.

Supply Chain & International Expansion

  • Secure and develop domestic and international sources of critical materials.
  • Align inventory planning with anticipated defense market demands.
  • Strengthen European defense supply chains—especially in Germany, France, and the UK—leveraging established mill relationships.

Operations Capability Development

  • Promote new capabilities such as NDT (non-destructive testing) to defense customers.
  • Collaborate across Wieland’s business units to launch new defense-specific services and products.
  • Guide internal alignment on best practices for manufacturing and machining defense-critical components.

Qualifications:

 
Education / Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, engineering, business, or related field. Advanced degree or government experience preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in defense, government relations, or metals/manufacturing industries.
 
Technical & Regulatory Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with DFARS, ITAR, GSA, and U.S. procurement processes.
  • Strong understanding of the defense and naval industrial base.
 
Soft Skills:
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Executive presence with the ability to represent the company externally at a high level.
  • Strategic thinker with high initiative, organization, and political acumen.
  • Ability to travel regularly to meet stakeholders, attend industry events, and support cross-functional initiatives.
