Wieland is hiring a Metallurgical Engineer. The Metallurgical Engineer will provide metallurgical and technical support to all aspects of manufacturing. Demonstrates technical leadership by guiding cross-functional teams in solving complex metallurgical challenges and implementing process improvements. Collaborates closely with production teams, shares expertise, and models for a proactive approach to quality and continuous improvement on the manufacturing floor. Serves as a subject matter expert, mentoring peers and supporting continuous improvement efforts throughout the organization. This role is located in Montpelier, OH and will be fully on-site.

Responsibilities

Metallurgical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily metallurgical and technical support to all company departments actively involved in manufacturing including corrective and preventive action
  • Perform metallographic analysis using digital or optical microscopy.
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on customer complaints/claims and internal quality issues including corrective and preventive action
  • Prepare detailed technical reports on completed failure analysis investigations.
  • Responsible for identifying and executing projects for process improvements.
  • Organizes, plans, and leads execution of alloy, product and/or process trials involving growth opportunities throughout the mill.
  • Works in close collaboration with GX teams in Germany.
  • Actively contributes and implements continuous process improvements.
  • Perform regular process audits to assure adherence to standard procedure and analyze process optimization.

Metallurgical Engineer Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science required
  • At least 5 years related experience with casting and hot extrusion preferred.
  • Knowledge of metallographic sample preparation, etching and the use of digital and light optical microscopes
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety practices
  • Attention to detail with strong mathematical and communication skills
