Wieland is hiring a Roll Grinder Operator. The Roll Grinder Operator will be responsible for providing the support needed for several key operations in the plant: rolling mill, strand annealer & slitting. This person will work closely with the production leadership team to understand & address the grinding needs in their areas. This role is also responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and troubleshooting of all grinders in the facility.  This role is located in Wheeling, IL, and will be fully on-site. 

Hourly Pay Range: $25.49/hr. - $32.75/hr.

Work Schedule: 1st Shift (6:00 am - 2:00 pm)

Pay Schedule: Bi-weekly

Roll Grinder Operator Responsibilities:

• Responsible for setting up and configuring CNC & Lathe equipment with the appropriate tooling, ensuring proper material feed, and performing quality checks to produce accurate ground components according to production specifications, while maintaining a safe working environment.
• Perform administrative duties as assigned, including completion of work order documentation and data entry into the computerized maintenance system
• Work together with the production crew to minimize downtime and maximize productivity by properly grinding rolling mill rolls, furnace squeegee rolls, rubber rolls, slitting knives, rubber spaces, etc.
• Work with the production team to constantly improve production processes.
• Perform basic maintenance tasks on the CNC & Lathes machines, including lubrication, cleaning, and checking for wear and tear.
• Troubleshoot machine malfunctions and report more complex issues to supervision.
• Complete assigned tasks associated with tooling maintenance, including preventative and predictive maintenance on these systems.

Roll Grinder Operator Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; 2-year college degree in Machine Shop preferred
• Previous CNC, Lathe grinding experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience operating manual conventional lathes, conventional mills, surface grinders, and all related machine shop equipment is required.
• Minimum of five years industrial/maintenance machinist experience OR a four-year apprenticeship certification (Machinist or Tool & Die Maker required)
• Experience in press repair and general equipment breakdown maintenance is preferred but not required
• Understanding of Predictive Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance practices is a plus
• Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences Competency/Qualification
• Very strong ability and desire to learn and apply new concepts
• Previous experience operating a crane and/or forklift is preferred. Willingness to learn and become certified is required if no prior experience
• Be readily available on a 7-day  24 hour on-call basis

• Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
• Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
