Wieland is hiring a Slitter Operator (MS1). The Slitter Operator (MS1) will be responsible for safely and efficiently setting up and operating the slitter and multi-head traverse machine while maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring the production of high-quality products. This role is located in Wheeling, IL, and will be fully on-site. 

Hourly Pay Range: $21/hr - $25/hr

Shift Differential: $0.50/hr 2nd shift differential

Work Schedule: 2nd Shift: Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Pay Schedule: Biweekly

Slitter Operator (MS1) Responsibilities:

Inspect Material

• Before running the material, check gauge, width, camber, and burr direction to ensure specifications are met.
• Contact the Shift Lead for an edge, width, gauge and surface checks.
• Inspect the weld and verify coil dimensions at each weld.

Run the Machine

• Monitor the machine and adjust reel parameters as needed to produce a consistent, quality reel.
• Adjust welder settings as necessary to maintain consistent, high-quality welds.
• Continuously monitor equipment performance and material quality during production.

Remove Material from the Machine & Pack Reels

• Perform final inspections of coil dimensions to ensure they meet specifications.
• Secure the end of the material with tape and wrap the reel with plastic or paper as required.
• Properly label each reel with the appropriate required information.

Production & Equipment Operations

• Check the WFS computer for production priorities, locate required material, and notify Logistics when material is ready to be loaded onto the machine.
• Using the GAMB computer program and WFS priorities, build machine set-ups as required for current and future Production Orders.
• Check samples using the MMS computer to verify material quality and specifications.
• Operate and monitor equipment throughout the production process.
• Collect a second set of samples at the end of each coil and check them using the MMS computer.
• Clear scrap from the machine and install the next set-up onto the slitter arbor.
• Cross-train in other areas of the Finishing Department as needed.
• Maintain a safe and environmentally responsible work environment in accordance with applicable regulations and company requirements.
• Reduce scrap by monitoring material quality, machine performance, and operating conditions.
• Maintain and support 5S and 6S standards and continuous improvement efforts.

Slitter Operator (MS1) Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience working with heavy metals or in a similar manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to accurately use calipers, micrometers, and other testing or measuring equipment required.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently.
• Previous machine operating experience preferred.
• Successful completion of a minimum of four weeks of supervised on-the-job training.
• Ability to read and write English and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude and work effectively as part of a team.

• Manual dexterity for handling and manipulating items, samples, and tools.
• Vision abilities, including close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
• Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
